Stephen Gill is one of my favourite photographers because he lays between documentary and conceptual photography like nobody else does.
In his "Audio portraits", Stephen depicts strangers while listening to music in their personal stereos. The songs they´re listening give name to the images resulting.
"Hackney Flowers" and "Buried" were developed in Hackney, the London area where he lives, and their poetical component is stronger. In this last series, pictures taken at Hackney´s sunday market were buried there and then recovered after some time. Paper rotting generates like this beautiful and unique images.
Another side of Stephen´s activity is being a book publisher. Through Nobody Books he self-disclose most of his work achieving a high level of independence during all his steps as a photographer.
